  • As printed This will be the second SouthBound for Mac’s Hospitality Group; the other is in Charlotte. The Greensboro SouthBound will be next to Mac’s Speed Shop at 1218 Battleground Ave. The company describes Southbound as having “a laid-back Baja vibe and open-air concept inspired by the streets of Southern California.” The Greensboro location will offer counter service and indoor and outdoor seating. The menu will include eight kinds of tacos, burritos, beers and craft margaritas. The menu will also include daily drink specials and such brunch specialties as Huevos Verdes, Churros French Toast and Hangover Hash. Mac’s Hospitality Group has Mac’s Speed Shop restaurants in Charlotte’s South End and Steele Creek neighborhoods, Matthews, Lake Norman, Greensboro, Fayetteville, Wilmington, as well as Greenville, S.C. Another Mac’s Speed Shop is set to open next year in Fort Mill, S.C. The company did not give an opening date for the Greensboro SouthBound. “Our signature SoCal vibe has made SouthBound a huge success in Charlotte, and we think Greensboro will give us an equally enthusiastic welcome,” said Mac’s President Shang Skipper. “In opening our second SouthBound location, we continue to redefine the taqueria in North Carolina.” FORT MILL, S.C. — Mac’s Speed Shop will add a Fort Mill restaurant in the second quarter of 2022. The popular barbecue joint is under contract to purchase 3-plus acres off Exit 85 on S.C. Highway 160 in Fort Mill, says Shang Skipper , president of Mac’s Hospitality Group. [ ALSO READ: Local BBQ joint Mac’s Speed Shop revs up expansion plans ] “This is a location we think is a little underserved for what we do at Mac’s. We think it will do well,” he says. Read More Here Mac’s Speed Shop will add a Fort Mill restaurant in the second quarter of 2022. The popular barbecue joint is under contract to purchase 3-plus acres off Exit 85 on S.C. Highway 160 in Fort Mill, says Shang Skipper , president of Mac’s Hospitality Group. “This is a location we think is a little underserved for what we do at Mac’s. We think it will do well,” he says. Plans call for two restaurants from Mac’s Hospitality Group on that site. Both will be between 4,000 and 5,000 square feet. A new concept that will feature live music is under development, Skipper says. In total, he expects to invest north of $4 million into that project, which is about a mile from the Baxter mixed-use development. Skipper says Mac’s is considering additional growth in the Carolinas, with four deals in progress. He says adding as many as four restaurants a year is possible over the next several years. “We believe there’s a lot of growth opportunity for us for the Mac’s brand,” he says. “We’re going to take it one location at a time.” In total, Mac’s Hospitality Group has invested more than $20 million into its restaurant portfolio over the last 16 years. It now operates eight locations of Mac’s Speed Shop in the Carolinas, as well as Southbound, The Music Yard and Backstage Lounge. Skipper says there are also plans for a scaled-down version of Southbound in Greensboro. That 3,600-square-foot restaurant will be located next to the Mac’s on Battleground Avenue. “We’re very excited about Southbound. We think there’s a ton of potential for that brand,” he says. The craft beer movement may have been founded on a renewed push for quality, but it has been sustained by novelty. Rather than stick to tried-and-true favorites, many consumers relish the opportunity to sample new beers, from fresh iterations of classics to off-the-wall specials that brewers of yesteryear would never dream of concocting. This consumer demand plus the proliferation of breweries have not only paved the way for beer-centric concepts, they have also encouraged restaurants to beef up their tap selections. But while some subscribe to the more-is-more mentality, a more measured approach could be better for business—especially in the wake of COVID-19. “The Great Pandemic of 2020–2021 was an absolute draft killer. You had draft-only breweries scramble to start packing their beers in cans so customers could take them home,” says Brian Yaeger, a certified cicerone, author, and former FSR contributor. “Back in spring 2020, thousands of kegs were literally dumped either down the drain or converted to anything from swine feed to hand sanitizer.” Read More Here CHARLOTTE, N.C. — If you try to visit a Mac’s Speed Shop location on Monday, August 9 you are going to be met with a closed door and empty restaurant. All Mac’s locations in both North Carolina and South Carolina closed to give employees the day off to prevent burnout and relieve tired employees.
