December Update at 13th Flow Dec 2, 2019
Elisabeth Akinwale
Many of you are returning to your normal routine after a long weekend. With the holiday season and the irregular schedules that often come with it, it can be tempting to surrender your healthy routines around training and nutrition with the hope of pulling things back together in January. We hope you’ll use this opportunity to reset for the remainder of the month, there’s no need to dig yourself into a hole when it comes to progress you’ve made in your health & fitness goals. Yo… (truncated)

5 Ways to Overcome Obstacles Oct 26, 2017
Elisabeth Akinwale
Obstacles, either concrete or perceived, are a part of every journey—but they don’t have to be seen as barriers. We can instead view them as stepping-stones, placing ourselves on a path to achieving our goals. Our decisions must be driven by our passions and hopes, not by our fears. Bold decisions with uncertain outcomes are necessary to step outside of where we are comfortable and into the magic space where confidence and progress bloom. I’m sharing five obstacles I’ve overcome in… (truncated)

"Get Out" In black & white Mar 14, 2017
Elisabeth Akinwale
*this article contains some light spoilers “Your role in social change starts two steps past where you’re comfortable.” — Brittany Packnett Both times I’ve watched “Get Out” have left me disturbed and sleeping uneasily. Not to be over dramatic about it. I am generally scared of the dark and what lurks behind shower curtains, but “Get Out’ isn’t that type of horror movie (now I'm afraid of people stirring cups of tea.) It elicits a unique mixture of being disturbed by the realitie… (truncated)

5 Steps to Your Best Performance Mar 13, 2017
Elisabeth Akinwale
The 2017 CrossFit Games Open begins this week. At this point no one is going to get significantly more fit over night, but there are some concrete steps you can take on and around game day to maximize your performance. The list of elements that go into being mentally and physically prepared to create your best performance each week is long. I want to hone in on a specific aspect, which is your mental strategy immediately before and during the workout, in five steps. Mindset is… (truncated)

Two Homes, One Task Jan 19, 2017
Elisabeth Akinwale
I’ve been co-parenting for the past six years. There are certain aspects that, while they are our normal, they aren’t easy. At times I check myself when I think, “why haven’t I gotten used this yet?” Besides working to be a great mother in general, I consider managing the co-parenting relationship and a child’s adjustment to co-parents to be the most important thing I can do for my son’s well-being. How ironic, the personal relationship that for whatever reason didn’t work out,… (truncated)

How My Son Helped Me Win a CrossFit Games Event Jan 10, 2017
Elisabeth Akinwale
There’s a moment in my CrossFit Games life that always seems to come up, no matter how many years pass…the 2011 Killer Kage. I’m not mad when it comes up. It’s a lovely memory. Recently I was chatting with one of my personal coaching clients after she had returned from her holiday travel. She has transformed her body over the past year, and the subject of her training came up with her family. In the course of telling her family about her work with me, she showed them a video of the… (truncated)
